THERMAL ANALYSIS OF A VARIABLE CAPACITY COMPRESSOR FREQUENCY INVERTER

Abstract
Due to technology advancements, the power density of electronic components has considerably increased in recent years. However, high temperatures can affect the reliability of electronic components and, therefore, thermal analysis should be done as early as possible in the overall design process. The present paper reports a simulation model developed to predict the temperature distribution of the electronic components of a variable-frequency drive used in refrigeration compressors. A commercial computational software was adopted in the analysis and the results were validated through comparisons with experimental data of temperature in different components under three operating conditions.
