Abstract
The present paper proposes a prediction model to simulate operational parameters and NO production of a superheated steam generator SSG from a real coal-fired power plant. The substitution of the power plant original fuel, Colombian coal, for different alternative ones is motivated by economic opportunities. These frequent changes in fuel composition imply in the need to anticipate adjusts in the operation parameters, so the process can be kept balanced. SSG furnace is modeled as a Perfect Stirred Reactor PSR, on a zero-dimensional approach, to solve mass and energy conservation balances. NO generation is estimated by a post-processed model to predict pollutant formation, taking into account both Thermal NO and Fuel NO mechanisms. Results are compared to real data of a 1GW steam generator, with 1.3 % relative deviations for flue gas temperature and 14 % for High Heating Value HHV. Relative deviation of NO formation reaches values up to 37 %, that are within the same order of magnitude of the measured values, and indicates the model usefulness as a first approach confirming it as a guideline for furnace behavior.
