Abstract
One option to reduce the energy consumption in producing domestic hot water is replace the electrical heaters by direct expansion solar assisted heat pumps (DX-SAHP). Although, there are many experimental and theoretical studies on the effect of environment conditions in energetic or exegetic performance, however there are no studies on economic analysis of solar collector size. This theoretical analysis was made using lumped models for heat exchanges and a black box model for the hermetic R134a compressor. This modeling was validated using experimental results from DX-SAHP equipped with a 1.65m² bare flat plate collector operating in different environment conditions. The results from experimental and theoretical analysis had a maximum deviation of 5.9%. The results show that the increasing of collector size increase the COP but decrease the collector efficiency. The payback period analysis shown a optimum collector size of 2.25m² for any solar radiation, air temperature and electricity price.
