Evaluation of Reentry Dynamics of SARA platform Considering the Effects of Ablation in the Thermal Shield

Abstract
In this work, the dynamic analysis of the reentry of the SARA Sub-orbital Platform is performed, considering the effects of geometry change in the ablative thermal protection shield due the material consumption. The aerodynamic heating is estimated through an engineering method with trajectory dependence. The obtained heat flux on the external surface is used to simulate the ablative process and surface change due the mass loss. The trajectory is corrected considering the new geometry, after recalculating the aerodynamic parameters. The methodology was employed in the SARA Sub-orbital platform, demonstrating that in this case the influence of the trajectory over the surface ablation is remarkable, while the opposite effect over the trajectory is negligible.
