 Title:
FEASIBILITY OF WIND AND PHOTOVOLTAICS SMALL SYSTEMS FOR RURAL ELETRIFICATION IN STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL

Summary :
ABSTRACT. THIS WORK ANALYZES THE TECHNICAL-ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY ASPECTS FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF WIND AND PHOTOVOLTAIC AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS IN AREAS WHICH LACK RURAL ELECTRIFICATION IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL STATE, BRAZIL. THE SIZE OF THE WIND ENERGY SYSTEMS IS CALCULATED AS A FUNCTION OF THE WIND SPEED DISTRIBUTION IN THE SITE. SOLAR RADIATION DATA ARE ANALYZED IN ORDER TO DEFINE THE SIZE OF THE PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS, THUS DETERMINING THE NUMBER OF PHOTOVOLTAIC UNITS NEEDED. FROM THE PREVIOUS INFORMATION WE GET THE COSTS OF ENERGY PRODUCTION THROUGH THE SYSTEMS AS COMPARED TO THE COSTS OF EXPANDING THE CONVENTIONAL ELECTRIC POWER GRID. THE AIM IS TO SHOW THE POTENTIAL USE OF ELECTRIC RENEWABLE SYSTEMS IN THE RURAL AREAS OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL STATE. KEYWORDS: WIND SYSTEMS, SOLAR SYSTEMS
