DISCUSSION OF APPROXIMATIONS FOR THE PRESSURE GRADIENT IN THE FINITE VOLUME METHOD ON VORONOI DIAGRAMS
 
Summary :
ABSTRACT. IN THE NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF INCOMPRESSIBLE FLUID FLOWS BY THE FINITE VOLUME METHOD IT IS USUAL TO TAKE THE PRESSURE CONTRIBUTION IN THE MOMENTUM BALANCE AS A SOURCE TERM, IN A WAY THAT MAKES NECESSARY TO APPROXIMATE THE VALUE OF THE PRESSURE GRADIENT CORRESPONDING TO EACH CONTROL VOLUME THROUGH AN APPROPRIATE EXPRESSION. IN THIS PAPER FOUR ALTERNATIVE EXPRESSIONS TO REALIZE THIS EVALUATION ARE DISCUSSED. USING MATHEMATICALLY SIMPLE ARGUMENTS AND COMPUTATIONAL RESULTS, THE AUTHORS TRY TO IDENTIFY THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF EACH OF THESE EXPRESSIONS.
