 Title:
HEAT CONDUCTION IN WELDING WITH THERMAL PULSING

Summary :
ABSTRACT. AN ANALYTICAL SOLUTION FOR THE HEAT CONDUCTION IN A FINITE THICKNESS PLATE BEING WELDED IS PRESENTED. THE SOLUTION TAKES INTO ACCOUNT A DISTRIBUTED HEAT SOURCE PLACED OVER THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE PLATE AND HEAT LOSSES TO THE ENVIRONMENT BY BOTH ITS SURFACES. THE POWER OF THE HEAT SOURCE IS VARIED ALONG THE TIME IN ORDER TO MODEL THE THERMAL PULSING. THE DEDUCTION OF THE ANALYTICAL SOLUTION, THAT REVEALED THE INCORRECTNESS OF AN EXPRESSION FOUND IN THE LITERATURE, IS DESCRIBED. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS, OBTAINED IN THE GTA WELDING OF LOW-CARBON STEEL PLATES, ARE UTILIZED TO EVALUATE THE ANALYTICAL MODEL. KEY-WORDS: HEAT CONDUCTION, WELDING, THERMAL PULSING
