 Title:
POWER CONSUMPTION AND HEAT GENERATION IN THE TURNING PROCESS

Summary :
ABSTRACT: A STUDY OF THE ENERGETIC TRANSFORMATIONS DURING THE TURNING PROCESS IS PRESENTED. CUTTING FORCES AND CUTTING TEMPERATURES WERE MEASURED SIMULTANEOUSLY AND WERE USED FOR ESTIMATING THE HEAT GENERATED. THE TOTAL HEAT AND THE HEAT GENERATED AT SECONDARY SHEAR ZONE, WERE OBTAINED USING THE CUTTING FORCE AND THE FEED FORCE, RESPECTIVELY. THE HEAT FLOWING TO CUTTING TOOL, WAS ESTIMATED USING A COMPUTATIONAL PROGRAM BASED ON INVERSE HEAT CONDUCTION PROBLEMS AND ON THE TEMPERATURES MEASURED AT THE OPPOSITE BOTTOM EDGE, BETWEEN THE INSERT FACE AND THE TOOL HOLDER. THE HEAT GENERATED AT THE SECONDARY SHEAR ZONE IS COMPARED WITH THAT FLOWING INTO THE CUTTING TOOL. THE MAJOR PART OF THIS HEAT GENERATED FLOWS INTO THE CUTTING TOOL. THE HEAT GENERATED AT THE PRIMARY SHEAR ZONE WAS CALCULATED SUBTRACTING THE HEAT GENERATED AT THE SHEAR ZONE FROM THE TOTAL HEAT. KEYWORDS: TURNING, POWER CONSUMPTION, HEAT GENERATED.
