 Title:
REOLOGICAL ANALYSIS IN INJECTION MOLDS IN THE CONTEXT OF A FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM

Summary :
ABSTRACT. THIS WORK DESCRIBES PART OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM APPLIED TO THE PRODUCTION OF INJECTION MOLDS OF THERMOPLASTICS IN THE CONTEXT OF INTELLIGENT MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS (IMS) THAT IS BEING DEVELOPED IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (DEMC) OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CAXIAS DO SUL (UCS). MAKING USE OF TECHNIQUES SUCH AS CONCURRENT ENGINEERING (CE) IT IS POSSIBLE TO OFFER PRODUCTS TO THE MARKET, IN THIS CASE INJECTION MOLDS, WITH LOWER LEAD-TIMES OF DEVELOPMENT AND LOWER CONCEPTION MISTAKES. THE DESIGN SIMULATION TESTS THE FUNCTIONAL VALIDITY OF THE USE OF THE MOLD IN MOST DIFFERENT CONDITIONS. THE SIMULATIONS WILL BE REOLOGICAL, THERMAL AND MECHANICAL. THE REOLOGICAL SIMULATION PREDICTS THE FLOW OF THE MATERIAL INSIDE THE CAVITY AND IN THE FILLING SYSTEM, ANALYZING ITS BEHAVIOR IN THE FILLING AND PACKING PHASES; THEN IT IS ACCOMPLISHED THE RUNNER BALANCING AND FINALLY IT IS DETERMINED THE PACKING CONDITIONS. THIS WAY, THE GEOMETRIC FORM OF THE CAVITY COULD BE OPTIMIZED, AVOIDING QUALITY PROBLEMS IN THE PIECE. THE PRESENT WORK INTENDS TO SHOW HOW THE REOLOGICAL SIMULATION CAN BE USED IN THE CONCEPTION AND DESIGN PHASES OF AN INJECTION MOLD. KEYWORDS: REOLOGY, INJECTION MOLDS, FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS, INTELLIGENT MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS, CONCURRENT ENGINEERING.
