 Title:
SIMULATION OF THE FLOW AROUND A POROUS BODY AND A DENSE TUBE BUNDLE

Summary :
ABSTRACT: TO KNOW HOW HYDRODYNAMIC LOAD ACTS IN TUBE BANKS IS OF GREAT SCIENTIFIC INTEREST AND VERY IMPORTANT IN THE ANALYSIS AND SOLUTION OF MANY TECHNOLOGICAL PROBLEMS. AS AN EXAMPLE OF THESE PROBLEMS WE HAVE: THE DESIGN OF NUCLEAR REACTORS, THE DESIGN OF SOME COMPONENTS OF OFFSHORE STRUCTURES USED IN EXPLORATION OF OIL IN THE SEA. MANY EFFECTS THAT OCCUR SIMULTANEOUSLY IN THE FLOW AROUND BODIES WITH COMPLEX SHAPES AND TUBE BUNDLES TURN THE ANALYSIS COMPLICATED, PRESENTING MANY UNKNOWN FEATURES. BECAUSE OF THAT, SIMPLE MODELS CAN BE CONSTRUCTED, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE INTEREST IS TO DETERMINE THE RESULTANT LOAD THAT ACTS IN COMPACT TUBE BUNDLES. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS CONSISTS IN ANALYSING THE FLOW AROUND A COMPACT TUBE BUNDLE, WHICH IS MODELED AS AN EQUIVALENT POROUS PRISM. THE SCHEME PRESENTED FOR THE ANALYSIS ASSUMES THAT THE FLOW FIELD CAN BE DIVIDED IN TWO REGIONS. THE OUTER FLOW IS ANALYSED USING THE DISCRETE VORTEX METHOD WITH A POROUS CONDITION ON THE BODY BOUNDARY; DARCY S LAW GOVERNS THE INNER FLOW. NUMERICAL RESULTS ARE PRESENTED AND THEY ARE COMPARED WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. THESE RESULTS SHOW THE POTENTIALITIES OF THE APPROACH. KEY WORDS: VORTEX METHOD, POROUS BODY, AERODYNAMICS
