POWERCAM, A COMPUTATIONAL TOOL FOR DESIGNING CAM-FOLLOWER MECHANISMS
 
Summary :
ABSTRACT. THE AIM OF THIS WORK IS TO DEVELOP A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO ASSIST ON THE DESIGN OF DISC CAMS WITH OFFSET ROLLER FOLLOWERS, EXECUTING THE KINEMATIC SYNTHESIS OF THE CAM PROFILE AND THE KINETOSTATIC ANALYSIS OF THE MECHANISM. TO PROVIDE PRECISION, GENERALITY AND PRACTICITY ON THE SOFTWARE USAGE, THE AUTHORS IMPLEMENT AN EXPRESSION ANALISER AND COMPILER AND A CUBIC SPLINE INTERPOLATION ROUTINE. MANY TESTS ARE CARRIED IN ORDER TO CHECK UP THE PROGRAM. FIRST THE CAM PROFILE IS SYNTHESIZED FOR A GIVEN FOLLOWER MOTION. THEN THIS CAM PROFILE IS USED AS AN INPUT TO A KINEMATIC ANALYSIS AND THE RESULTS OF THESE TWO ANALYSIS ARE COMPARED. THE PROGRAM S RESULTS ARE ALSO COMPARED TO THE ONES GIVEN BY COMMERCIAL FINITE ELEMENT AND MULTIBODY SYSTEM CODES. KEY-WORDS: MECHANISMS, CAMS, SYNTHESIS.
