MAINTENANCE QUALITY ASSURANCE THROUGH STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES, FMEA AND FTA
 
Summary :
THE PRESENT WORK IS INTENDED TO DEMONSTRATE HOW FAILURE MODES AND EFFECTS ANALYSIS (FMEA) AND "FAILURE TREE" ANALYSIS (FTA) TECHNIQUES CAN ADD VALUE TO TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS. THE THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF BOTH TECHNIQUES ARE ADDRESSED, RELATING FMEA AND FTA TO GENERAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT METHODS, INSIDE AND BEYOND THE SCOPE OF THE MAINTENANCE FUNCTION. IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THE PARAMETERS NEEDED TO EVALUATE THE MAINTENANCE PROCESS CAPABILITY, PROPER STATISTICAL INDEXES ARE INTRODUCED AT THE STAGE RELATED TO THE ANALYSIS OF CONTROL DEVICES. FINALLY, WITH THE AIM OF ILLUSTRATING THE CONCEPTS EMPLOYED HEREON, SOME OF THE PROPOSED TOOLS ARE DEPLOYED TO ANALYSE A SPECIFIC CASE BELONGING TO A REAL MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT.
