 Title:
EVALUATION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT TURBULENCE MODELS TO PREDICT FLOW THROUGH A BACK-STEP

Summary :
IN THE PRESENT WORK, PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF THREE DIFFERENT TURBULENCE MODELS IN THE PREDICTION OF FLOWS THROUGH A BACKSTEP IS EXAMINED. THE MODELS SELECTED ARE BASED ON THE TRADITIONAL K-E MODEL AND ARE: RNG K-E, ANISOTROPIC RNG K-E AND ANISOTROPIC K-E OF SPEZIALE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE ANALYSIS IS TO VERIFY IF THESE MODELS ARE CAPABLE OF CAPTURING THE RECIRCULATION AREAS AND PRESSURE RECOVERY AFTER OBSTRUCTION, FUNDAMENTALS FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF TENSIONS. THE FIELDS OF VELOCITY, TURBULENT KINETIC ENERGY, DISSIPATION RATE OBTAINED BY THE DIFFERENT MODELS ARE COMPARED WITH AND EXPERIMENTS DATA FOUND IN THE LITERATURE, SEEKING TO IDENTIFY WHICH IS THE MODEL MORE ADAPTED FOR THOSE TYPE OF FLOWS. KEY-WORDS: K-E LINEAR AND NON LINEAR MODELS, RENORMALIZATION;
