NUMERIC SIMULATION OF COMPRESSIBLE JETS OF AIR IMPINGING ON A HEATED FLAT PLATE
 
Summary :
ABSTRACT IN THIS WORK IT WAS STUDIED THE EFFECTS OF AN INCIDENT JET ON A HEATED FLAT PLATE, USING THE TECHNIQUE OF SPECTRAL ELEMENTS. IT IS KNOWN THAT THE IMPINGING JETS ON HEATED SOLID SURFACES PRODUCES HIGH RATES OF TRANSFER OF HEAT OR OF MASS AND THAT, THEY ARE USED BROADLY IN THE INDUSTRIES INVOLVING CHEMICAL PROCESSES. THE USE OF JETS IN THE PROCESSES OF HEATING, COOLING OR DRYING IS FOUND IN SEVERAL APPLICATIONS, IN WHICH ARE STAND OUT: DRYING OF PAPER AND FABRIC; GLASS TEMPER; HEATING AND COOLING OF METALS; COOLING OF BRADES OF TURBINES AND OF ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AND COMBUSTION IN A CATALYTIC LIT. IN THIS STUDY, THE FLOW OF THE JET WAS CONSIDERED TWO-DIMENSIONAL, TURBULENT AND COMPRESSIVE. A COMPUTATIONAL CODE WAS DEVELOPED THAT WAS CAPABLE TO DESCRIBE THE QUALITATIVE BEHAVIOR OF THE FLOW STRUCTURES AND TO GIVE SOME QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION OF THE HEAT TRANSFER PARAMETERS BETWEEN THE HEATED FLAT PLATE AND THE FLUID, IN FUNCTION OF THE CONDITIONS OF HEATING OF THE PLATE AND OF THE GEOMETRIC PARAMETERS THAT CHARACTERIZES THE FLOW DOMAIN. THE PRESENTED RESULTS DESCRIBE THE BEHAVIOR OF THE LOCAL NUSSELT NUMBER IN FUNCTION UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION TEMPERATURES, IN THE HEAT FLAT PLATE THAT WAS FIXED ON THE FLAT PLATE. IN ADDITION, IT TOOK PLACE A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE STRUCTURES THAT PREVAIL IN THE FLOW. IT WAS VERIFIED THAT EVEN FOR FLOW WITH GREAT NUMBERS OF REYNOLDS AND OF MACH, THE PREDOMINANT STRUCTURES ARE LARGE SCALES, AND COMPLETELY COHERENTS, EVEN FOR NARROW CHANNELS OF DISCHARGES OF THE FLOW, WHERE THE FLUID IS QUITE CONFINED.
