PROJETO DE UM DISPOSITIVO DE LIBERAÇÃO/RETENÇÃO COM ATUADOR EM LIGA COM EFEITO DE MEMÓRIA DE FORMA PARA OS PAINÉIS SOLARES DO SATÉLITE CIENTÍFICO SACI I
 
Summary :
THIS WORK DESCRIBES THE DESIGN, MANUFACTURING AND TESTING OF A HOLDDOWN/RELEASE DEVICE PROTOTYPE FOR SATELLITE SOLAR PANELS. THIS DEVICE IS INTENDED TO BE USED IN FUTURE MISSIONS USING THE FRAMEWORK OF THE SCIENTIFIC SATELLITE SACI I, CURRENTLY IN FINAL DEVELOPMENT PHASE AT THE BRAZILIAN NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR SPACE RESEARCH (INPE). THE DEVICE IS BASED ON AN ACTUATOR MADE OF SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY THAT HAS THE PROPERTY OF RECOVERING A PREVIOUSLY MEMORIZED SHAPE WHEN HEATED. A DESIGN METHODOLOGY IS DEVELOPED AIMING AT THE FUTURE QUALIFICATION PROCESS OF THE DEVICE, INCLUDING TESTS IN THE ON-ORBIT ENVIRONMENT. IN THE FIRST PART OF THE WORK, A STRUCTURAL MODEL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE NOTCHED BOLT AND A THERMAL MODEL FOR THE ACTUATOR HEATING PROCESS WERE DEVELOPED. TESTS FOR THE EXPERIMENTAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE BOLT STRENGTH WERE PERFORMED. THE MODELS WERE USED FOR THE PRELIMINARY DESIGN OF THE DEVICE. IN THE SECOND PART, A PROTOTYPE WAS MANUFACTURED AND TESTED IN LABORATORY CONDITIONS. THIS WORK DEMONSTRATED THE FEASIBILITY OF THE USE OF SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS FOR THE DESIGN OF SATELLITE HOLDDOWN/RELEASE DEVICES, WHICH CAN REPLACE, IN SEVERAL APPLICATIONS, THE CONVENTIONAL PYROTECHNIC DEVICES.
