Summary :
THE HEAVY OIL IS BEING AN ALTERNATIVE MORE AND MORE ATTRACTIVE AS GENERATOR OF FOSSIL COMBUSTIBLE, DUE TO THE PERSPECTIVE OF EXHAUSTING OF THE TRADITIONAL OIL RESERVES. NEW PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES EXIST IN THE PRODUCTION OF HEAVY OILS, MAINLY THOSE ASSOCIATED TO THE HIGH VISCOSITIES, THAT HINDER THE FLOW IN THE PRODUCTION TUBING. IT CAUSES GREAT PRESSURE LOSSES THAT ARE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF THOSE OILS. TO UNDERSTANDING THE BEHAVIOR OF THE MATERIAL, THE RHEOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF FOUR HEAVY OILS FROM ONSHORE AND OFFSHORE BRAZILIAN FIELDS WAS OBTAINED. WAS USED A DEFORMATION CONTROLLED RHEOMETER, REPRESENTING FIELD SHEAR RATES COMPARABLE WITH THE USE OF ELECTRICAL SUBMERSIBLE PUMP AND PROGRESSIVE CAVITIES PUMP AS METHODS OF ARTIFICIAL LIFT. IN ADDITION THE CONVENTIONAL TESTS, THE EFFECT OF THE TEMPERATURE (25OC A 65OC)WAS ANALYZED AND DYNAMIC TESTS WERE ACCOMPLISHED. IT WAS VERIFIED THAT IN THE RANGE OF SHEAR RATES AND TEMPERATURES ANALYZED, THE SAMPLES PRESENTED NEWTONIAN BEHAVIOR OR SLIGHTLY PSEUDOPLASTIC, WITH EXPONENTIAL DEPENDENCE OF THE VISCOSITY WITH THE TEMPERATURE IN THE TEST RANGE. AS FAR AS DYNAMIC POINT OF VIEW, THE OILS PRESENT A DOMINANT VISCOUS COMPONENT, BECOMING UNNECESSARY AN VISCOELÁSTIC APPROACH OF THE PROBLEM. THE CHOICE OF THE RHEOMETER SENSOR HAS A DECISIVE EFFECT IN THE DETERMINATION OF THE CONSTITUENT LAW. KEY-WORDS: RHEOLOGY, OIL, HEAVY, PETROLEUM, ARTIFFICIAL, LIFT
