 Title:
APPLICATION OF A NEW STREAMLNE UPWIND NUMERICAL METHOD TO SIMULATION OF RECIRCULATING FLOWS

Summary :
ABSTRACT: THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS WORK IS TO PRESENT A NEW FINITE-VOLUME TECHNIQUE FOR SOLVING DIFFUSION-CONVECTION PROBLEMS. A STREAMLINE UPWIND TECHNIQUE, ORIGINALLY DEVELOPED FOR FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS, WAS EXTENDED TO THE FINITE-VOLUME FORMULATION. BASICALLY, ONLY THE NUMERICAL TREATMENT OF THE CONVECTION TERM WAS MODIFIED, KEEPING UNCHANGED THE DISCRETIZATION OF THE OTHER TERMS IN THE EQUATIONS. THE PRIME METHOD WAS USED TO HANDLE THE PRESSURE-VELOCITY COUPLING. A COMPARISON OF THE PRESENT RESULTS WITH OTHER SOLUTIONS IN THE LITERATURE INDICATED A GOOD PERFORMANCE OF THE METHOD. KEYWORDS: CFD, FINITE-VOLUME, NUMERICAL METHODS, DISCRETIZATION SCHEMES.
