 Title:
FATIGUE NOTCH FACTOR BEHAVIOR IN RELATION TO STATIC STRESS CONCENTRATION FACTOR APPLIED FOR AXES

Summary :
IN THE DESIGN OF NOTCHED AXES SUBMITTED TO DYNAMIC LOAD IT IS DIFFICUL TO OBTAIN THE FATIGUE NOTCHED FACTOR VALUE, SO IT IS COMMON TO USE THE STATIC STRESS CONCENTRATION FACTOR, ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT A CORRECT PRACTICE. IN THIS PAPER WAS MADE AN ANALISIS FOR SELECTING THE BEST BETWEEN TWO APPROAHES THAT RELATE THESE TWO FACTORS TO BE USED IN DESIGN. THE RADIUS OF THE BOTTOM OF THE NOTCH AND THE MATERIAL CONSTANT WERE CONSIDERED IN THIS ANALYSIS. FIVE TYPES OF ROTATING BEAM FATIGUE SPECIMENS WERE EMPLOYED. ONE OF THEM WAS UNNOTCHED AND THE OTHER FOURS HAD DIFFERENT STRESS CONCENTRATORS. LOW CARBON STEEL SPECIMENS WERE INVESTIGATED.
