 Title:
PERFORMANCE OF THE RNG K-E MODEL FOR A 3-D FLOW IN A CURVED RECTANGULAR DUCT

Summary :
THE NUMERICAL FLOW SIMULATION IN A 90-DEGREE BEND OF A RECTANGULAR DUCT IS PERFORMED BY IMPOSING A SPATIALLY VARYING CENTRIFUGAL FORCE AND OTHER VISCOUS FORCES IN A STRAIGHT DUCT FLOW. THE FLOW IS INCOMPRESSIBLE AND ISOTHERMAL AND OCCURS IN THE TURBULENT REGIME (REH = 224000). THE RESULTING SET OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IS SOLVED USING PHOENICS COMPUTER PROGRAM. A PERFORMANCE COMPARISON IS DRAWN BETWEEN THE RNG K-E MODEL AND THE K-E STANDARD. IT DOES NOT SHOW ANY DISTINGUISHING FEATURE BETWEEN THE MODEL S RESULTS FOR THIS COMPLEX TRI-DIMENSIONAL FLOW FIELD. THE MEAN VELOCITY FIELD IS REPRODUCED SATISFACTORILY BY THE MODELS BUT BOTH MODELS FAIL TO REPRODUCE THE TURBULENT KINETIC ENERGY AND THE SHEAR STRESS FIELDS. KEYWORDS: TURBULENCE, CURVATURE, RNG K-E
