 Title:
THE BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD APPLIED TO THIN PLATES ANALYSIS INCLUDING THE GEOMETRICAL NON LINEARITY EFFECT

Summary :
ABSTRACT. THE BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD (BEM) HAS BEEN USED TO SOLVE ENGINEERING PROBLEMS WITH EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY. THIS STUDY INTENDS TO PRESENT AN ELASTIC THIN PLATES ANALYSIS INCLUDING THE GEOMETRICAL NON LINEARITY EFFECT APPLIED TO AN ISOTROPIC AND HOMOGENEOUS MATERIAL USING THE BEM. THE ISOPARAMETRIC LINEAR ELEMENTS WERE USED TO ENTAIL DISCRETISATION OF BOTH THE BOUNDARY AND THE DOMAIN. CONTINUOUS OR DISCONTINUOUS BOUNDARY ELEMENTS WERE USED ACCORDING TO THE BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM AND THE DOMAIN INTEGRALS RELATED TO THE GEOMETRICAL NON LINEARITY EFFECT WERE CONVERTED TO EQUIVALENT BOUNDARY INTEGRAL AT EACH DOMAIN CELL. ALL NODAL PARAMETERS WERE PLACED AT THE ENDS OF THE ELEMENTS AND WHEN DISCONTINUOUS ELEMENTS WERE USED THE COLLOCATION POINTS WERE SHIFTED TO THE ELEMENT INSIDE AT DISTANCE EQUAL TO A QUARTER OF THE ELEMENT LENGTH. ANALYTICAL FORMULATIONS WERE DEVELOPED TO PERFORM BOUNDARY INTEGRALS OVER THE REGION INCLUDING THE COLLOCATION POINT USING THE CAUCHY PRINCIPAL VALUE SENSE AND NUMERICAL INTEGRATION USING STANDARD GAUSSIAN QUADRATURE FORMULAE WERE USED TO EVALUATE INTEGRALS ON THE OTHER REGION. CRITICAL LOADS WERE OBTAINED WITH SOME BOUNDARY CONDITIONS AND COMPARED WITH THE AVAILABLE RESULTS FROM THE LITERATURE. KEYWORDS: CRITICAL LOADS, THIN PLATES, BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD (BEM)
