 Title:
OSCILLATIONS OF THE GAS CONTAINED IN A CLOSED TUBE DESCRIBED BY A SHOCK CAPTURING METHOD

Summary :
ABSTRACT. THE PROPAGATION OF FINITE-AMPLITUDE ACOUSTIC WAVES IN TUBES IS OF GREAT CONCERN IN PULSATING GAS FLOW PROBLEMS AS THOSE INSIDE EXHAUST PIPES OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES. MORE RECENTLY THIS HAS ALSO BEEN STUDIED WITH INTEREST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SONIC COMPRESSORS. IN THIS PAPER IT IS EVALUATED ONE OF THE WAYS FOR STUDYING THIS PHENOMENON: THE NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF THE QUASI-ONE-DIMENSIONAL MASS AND MOMENTUM CONSERVATION EQUATIONS, USING A SHOCK CAPTURING METHOD. KEY-WORDS: NON-LINEAR ACOUSTICS, NUMERICAL SIMULATION, SONIC COMPRESSOR
