DESIGN FOR RECYCLING: PROTOTYPE OF COMPUTACIONAL TOOL
 
Summary :
ABSTRACT. THIS WORK PRESENTS THE PROTOTYPE OF COMPUTATIONAL TOOL, WHICH AIMS TO PROVIDE PRODUCT DESIGNERS WITH THE NECESSARY INFORMATION TO EVALUATE THE BEST PRODUCT CONFIGURATION AS FAR AS RECYCLING IS CONCERNED. THIS SORT OF EVALUATION MUST BE CONDUCTED IN THE CONCEPTUAL PHASE OF THE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS TO GET MAJOR EFFECTS AND BENEFITS. THEREFORE, THE PROPOSED PROGRAM FITS WELL WITH THE SIMULTANEOUS ENGINEERING OR PRODUCT INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GUIDELINES AND RECYCLING RULES WERE BASED ON A RECYCLING STANDARD OF THE ASSOCIATION OF GERMAN ENGINEERS (VDI 1993), THAT HAS BEEN USED SUCCESSFULLY FOR FIVE YEARS BY BMW. THE POTENTIAL RECYCLING PART IS EVALUATED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SUITABILITY FOR RECYCLING INDEX. THAT IS CALCULATED THROUGH SEVERAL CRITERIA SUCH AS: MATERIAL IMPORTANCE, ASSEMBLY TECHNOLOGY AND GEOMETRICAL FEATURES OF THE PARTS. THE COMPUTATIONAL PROTOTYPE STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT AND THAT WILL BE WRITTEN IN A VISUALBASIC LANGUAGE AND PRESENTED AS A FRIENDLY INTERFACE FOR THE USER AT WINDOWS PLATFORM.
