 Title:
DETERMINATION OF FRICTION COEFFICIENTS IN DEEP DRAWING PROCESSES USING EXPERIMENTAL DEVICES

Summary :
ABSTRACT: WITH THE INCREASE OF COMPETITION BETWEEN INDUSTRIES IN THE WORLD, MAINLY IN CAR INDUSTRIES, HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR IN THE LAST YEARS NEW WAYS TO REDUCE THE TIME AND THE COSTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PRODUCTS. THE COMPUTATIONAL SIMULATION, USING FINITE ELEMENT METHOD, THAT SOME YEARS AGO WERE USED TO DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PRODUCTS, NOWADAYS HAVE HELPED THE DEVELOPMENT OF METAL FORMING DIES, SPECIALLY OF THE DEEP DRAWING PROCESSES. TO SIMULATE THE DEEP DRAWING PROCESSES, ONE OF THE VARIABLES NECESSARY IS THE FRICTION COEFFICIENT BETWEEN THE SHEET AND THE DIE. THE FRICTION COEFFICIENT IS AFFECTED BY SEVERAL FACTORS LIKE LUBRICANT, GEOMETRY OF THE DIE AND THE CONTACT PRESSURE. SOME TESTS WERE DONE WITH TWO EXPERIMENTAL DEVICES THAT CAN SIMULATE THE CONDITIONS OF DEEP DRAWING PROCESSES, ONE CAN SIMULATE DE CONTACT BETWEEN SHEET AND THE BLANKHOLDER AND OTHER CAN SIMULATE THE PUNCH RADIUS. WITH THESE DEVICES WAS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE FRICTION COEFFICIENT FOR DIFFERENT CONTACT PRESSURES AND KINDS OF LUBRICANTS AND VERIFY THE LUBRICANT PERFORMANCE. KEYWORDS: DEEP DRAWING, FRICTION, FINITE ELEMENT, SIMULATION
