 Title:
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IN CONVECTIVE BOILING OF R-22 FLOWING IN HORIZONTAL TUBES ELECTRICALLY HEATED

Summary :
PRESENT STUDY HAS BEEN SET FORTH IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE BEHAVIOR OF REFRIGERANTS UNDER CONVECTIVE BOILING CONDITIONS AT REDUCED QUALITIES. AN EXPERIMENTAL SET UP HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED TO INVESTIGATE THE CONVECTIVE BOILING OF REFRIGERANT HCFC-22 IN A 12.7 MM DIAMETER AND 2 M LONG COPPER TUBE HEATED BY TAPE ELECTRICAL RESISTORS WRAPPED ON THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OF THE TUBE. HEAT FLUX VARIED FROM 5 KW/M2 TO 20 KW/M2, WHEREAS THE MASS VELOCITY VARIED FROM 50 TO 500 KG/S.M2. AVERAGE QUALITY IN THE TEST SECTION WAS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 60% IN THE REPORTED EXPERIMENTS. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ARE ADEQUATELY CORRELATED BY CLASSICAL HEAT TRANSFER CORRELATIONS FOR CONVECTIVE BOILING. HEAT FLUX AND MASS VELOCITY EFFECTS HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY INVESTIGATED, WITH RESULTS PROVING TO BE PHYSICALLY SOUND. FLOW REGIMES HAVE ALSO BEEN INVESTIGATED IN CONNECTION WITH THE OBTAINED RESULTS. KEYWORKS: CONVECTIVE BOILING, REFRIGERANT, TWO-PHASE FLOW
