IN THIS PAPER, A STABLE PETROV-GALERKIN FORMULATION FOR THE COMPRESSIBLE EULER EQUATIONS IS COMBINED WITH A P -ADAPTIVE REMESHING REFINEMENT. THE STABILITY ENGENDERED BY THIS FORMULATION ALLOWS USING THE SAME SPATIAL INTERPOLATION ORDER IN ALL THE VARIABLES EVEN IN THE PRESENCE OF STEEP GRADIENTS.
