PROPRIEDADES MECÂNICAS E MECANISMO DE DANO EM COMPÓSITOS FIBROSO TIPO SANDWICH
 
Summary :
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND THE DAMAGE MECHANISM IN FIBROUS COMPOSITE MATERIALS ABSTRACT. THIS PAPER PRESENTS AN INVESTIGATION ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND THE DAMAGE MECHANISM OF FIBROUS COMPOSITE MATERIALS OF SANDWICH TYPE, WHICH ARE MADE BY REINFORCED PLASTIC AND GLASS FIBER (PRFV). THE COMPOSITES WERE SUBMITTED TO SEVERAL MECHANICAL TESTS, SUCH AS: CAPACITY TO RESIST IMPACT, ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH AND 3 POINTS-BASED BENDING STRENGTH. EACH TEST ALLOWED THE AUTHORS TO UNDERSTANDING HOW THE PARAMETERS OF THE CONFIGURATION (LAYOUT) AND THE COMPOSITION OF THE LAMINATE MATERIAL INFLUENCES ITS PROPERTIES AND THE FRACTURE MECHANISM. THE COMPOSITION PARAMETERS CONCERN WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF AN INTERMEDIATE "CORE LAYER" (COREMAT FIRET-XX) TO BE PRESENT IN THE COMPOSITE BASED LAMINATE MATERIAL. TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE COREMAT LAYER, ITS ORIENTATION ANGLE WAS ANALYSED (0º AND 90º), CHARACTERIZING DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS OF SANDWICH PLATES. THIS ORIENTATION REFERS TO THE LOAD DIRECTION FOR THE 3 POINTS-BASED BENDING STRENGTH TEST. IN ORDER TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO KEEP TRACK OF THE DAMAGE MECHANISM DURING THE IMPACT TEST, A PARTICULAR EQUIPMENT, CONSISTED OF A SENSITIVE HAMMER TYPE 8202 (BRÜEL & KJAER) LINKED WITH A VIBRATION APPLIANCE 2515 (BRÜEL & KJAER), WAS BUILTED. DURING ALL THE TESTS, THE DAMAGE MECHANISM WAS MONITORED BY USING AN OPTIC MICROSCOPY. KEY-WORDS: COMPOSITE SANDWICH, MECHANICAL PROPERTIES, DAMAGE MECHANISM.
