 Title:
THERMODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF COGENERATION SYSTEMS USING MOLTEN CARBONATE FUEL CELL

Summary :
THE FUEL CELL IS AN EMERGING TECHNOLOGY IN THE POINT OF VIEW OF COGENERATION, WHICH HAS BEEN APPLIED SUCCESFULLY IN JAPAN, U.S.A. AND SOME EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES. THIS SYSTEM PRODUCES BY THE CHEMICAL ENERGY, ELECTRICITY IN AN ELECTROLITIC PROCESS, BY CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES (THE MOST UTILIZED IN THE POINT OF VIEW OF COGENERATION ARE SOLID OXIDE, PHOSPHORIC ACID AND MOLTEN CARBONATE) WHICH MEDIATE THE CHEMICAL REACTION BETWEEN H2 OF THE FUEL AND O2 OF THE AIR OR EXHAUST GASES. THIS TECHNOLOGY ALSO PERMITS THE RECOVERY OF RESIDUAL HEAT, AVAILABLE FROM 200OC UP TO 1000OC (DEPENDING ON THE ELECTROCHEMICAL SUBSTANCE UTILIZED), WHICH CAN BE USED TO THE PRODUCTION OF STEAM, HOT OR COLD WATER, HOT OR COLD AIR, DEPENDING ON THE RECUPERATION EQUIPMENT ASSOCIATED. IN THIS PAPER A FUEL CELL COGENERATION SYSTEM ARE ANALYZED, APPLIED IN A SEGMENT OF THE TERTIARY SECTOR, THAT SHOW AS FEASIBLE ALTERNATIVE FOR RATIONAL DECENTRALIZED ENERGY PRODUCTION. KEYWORDS: COGENERATION, FUEL CELL.
