ESTUDO EXPERIMENTAL DO RESSONADOR DE HELMHOLTZ EM UM COLETOR DE ASPIRAÇÃO DE UM MOTOR DE COMBUSTÃO INTERNA ALTERNATIVO
 
Summary :
THIS WORK PRESENTS SOME RESULTS OF AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF A HELMHOLTZ RESONATOR IN AN INTAKE SYSTEM OF A FOUR-STROKE, 1000CC INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE. THE PRESSURE FLUCTUATIONS IN THE RESONATOR WERE MEASURED BY PRESSURE TRANSDUCERS. ONE TRANSDUCER WAS CONNECTED TO THE RESONATOR INTERIOR AND ANOTHER TO THE RESONATOR ENTRANCE. THE EXPERIMENTAL SET UP CONSISTS OF A FLOW BENCH COMPOSED OF A LARGE COMPRESSOR THAT PROVIDES THE AIR FLOW TO THE INTAKE SYSTEM. THE VALVES OF THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER ARE DRIVEN BY AN ELECTRICAL MOTOR THAT CONTROLS THE CAMSHAFT SPEED. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS INVESTIGATION WAS TO MEASURE THE RESONATOR RESPONSE TO DIFFERENT ENGINE SPEEDS AND COMPARED WITH THEORETICAL RESULTS. THE SPECTRAL ANALYSIS OF THE SIGNAL ALLOWED THE DETERMINATION OF THE NATURAL FREQUENCY OF THE RESONATOR. THE INVESTIGATION ALSO SHOWED THE SUITABILITY OF THE EXPERIMENTAL SET UP TO THE STUDY OF PULSATING FLOWS DRIVEN BY VALVE LIFT.
