TRANSIENT MODELLING OF A WIRE-AND-TUBE CONDENSER WITH FREE CONVECTION ON THE AIR SIDE
 
Summary :
ABSTRACT. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE TRANSIENT MODELLING OF A WIRE-AND-TUBE CONDENSER COMMONLY USED IN BRAZILIAN HOUSEHOLD REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS. THE ONE-DIMENSIONAL COMPRESSIBLE FLOW IS MODELLED BY THE MASS AND ENERGY CONSERVATION LAWS. THE DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS ARE SOLVED BY THE FINITE-VOLUME METHOD. THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND THE EQUALISATION PRESSURE OF THE SEALED SYSTEM ARE TAKEN AS THE INITIAL CONDITIONS, WHEREAS THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ARE ESTABLISHED BY THE INLET AND OUTLET MASS FLOW RATE AND THE COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE TEMPERATURE. THE MODEL PREDICTS THE CONDENSER RELEVANT PARAMETERS, BOTH IN SPACE AND TIME DOMAIN. THE MOST ATTRACTIVE FEATURE OF THE MODEL IS THE CONDENSER MASS INVENTORY IN AT EACH TIME-STEP.
