 Title:
OPTIMUM OPERATION OF WATER SUPPLY URBANS SYSTENS

Summary :
ABSTRACT. THE OPTIMAL MANAGEMENT OF WATER URBAN SUPPLY SYSTEMS IS A FUNDAMENTAL ISSUE AIMING AT THE SOCIAL WELFARE. THESE SYSTEMS HAVE SHOWN AN INCREASING DEMAND GROWTH, AT SO HIGH RATES THAT GOES BEYOND THE FORECASTED DEMAND AND WATER SUPPLY CAPACITY. THE GAP BETWEEN WATER SUPPLY CAPACITY AND DEMAND REFERS NOT ONLY TO CHEMICAL, PHYSICAL AND BACTERIOLOGICAL QUALITY BUT ALSO TO THE FREQUENCY OF SATISFACTION OF DEMAND. ALL THESE FACTORS SUPPORT THE DEVELOPEMENT AND APPLICATION OF MATHEMATICAL MODELS TO OBTAIN OPTIMAL OPERATION RULES AIMING AT AN UP-TO-DATE WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT. THIS RESEARCH WORK SHOWS AN OPTIMIZATION MODEL TO OPERATE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS, USING AN ITERACTIVE LINEAR PROGRAMMING MODEL WITH A SPECIAL PROCEDURE TO DEAL WITH NON-LINEARITIES. THE MINOS 5.1 OPTIMIZATION SOFTWARE IS USED. A CASE STUDY IS DEVELOPED USING A COMPLETE HYDRAULIC NETWORK, INCLUDING RESERVOIRS, BOOSTERS, PIPES AND VALVES.. KEY-WORDS: SYSTEMS OPTIMIZATION, HYDRAULIC NETWORK, WATER SUPPLY.
