A COMPUTERIZED VISCOMETER / RHEOMETER WAS DESIGNED BASED ON A COUETTE CELL
AND A HELICAL SPRING TORQUE METER, BOTH TAKEN FROM AN OBSOLETE COMERCIAL
RHEOMETER. THE APPLICABLE SHEAR RATE IS FROM 50 TO 500 (1/S), THE MEASURABLE
RANGE OF SHEAR STRESS IS FROM 2.7 TO 70 MPA, AND CALCULATED RANGE OF VISCOSITY
IS FROM 5 TO 1400 MPA.S. THE USE OF A STEPPING MOTOR TO DRIVE THE ROTATING BOB
SIMPLIFIES BOTH THE ELECTRONICS AND THE CONTROL PROGRAM. PRELIMINARY RESULTS
WITH LUBRICANT OILS HAVE SHOWN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH LITERATURE DATA.
