The oil exploitation activities in deepwater are growing up in Campos Basin, Brazil, where almost 70% of the whole national oil production take place. Petrobras, the leading Brazilian oil company is investing in the ultra deepwater (more than 2000m water depth) oil & gas exploitation. To reach this fascinating challenge, the Brazilian Ocean Engineering has recently inaugurated new laboratories as the Ocean Basin at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Numerical Offshore Tank at the University of São Paulo. In face of this new development, the Brazilian Mechanical Engineering community brings the Symposium of Offshore & Petroleum Engineering as a specific place to discuss several topics of this field. The symposium was planned to comprise a broad range of interests in the offshore area, covering both technological and scientific contributions from the following main topics: Offshore Technology, Offshore Mechanics, Ocean Engineering, Deep Water Technology, Risers & Pipelines Technology, Mooring Technology, Safety & Reliability, Advanced Ship Technologies, Materials Technologies, Environmental Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, Computational Methods.
