Abstract
Hemorrhagic stroke is a medical emergency that has a complex treatment, mainly caused by the rupture of an intracranial aneurysm. Preventing an aneurysm’s rupture is the focus of studies around treatment techniques such as clipping and embolization, the latter being less invasive. The embolization of cerebral aneurysms is commonly performed by inserting small coils enclosed by stents that mitigate aneurysmal sac rupture chances by reducing blood flow in a vascular region that contains an aneurysm. Aiming to help with medical performance evaluations, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and possibilities of stent implantation, this paper suggests the reproduction of an intracranial aneurysmal vessel stent deployment algorithm via a single Python script. In this algorithm, virtual deployments of commercial stent designs (helical, hexagonal, and enterprise) are conducted in simplified geometries and real vessels, as well as performance aspects of the code on a commercial machine are evaluated. It is seen that the algorithm has a short execution time and flexibility to geometrically manipulate vessels with aneurysms for CFD study.
