Abstract
The present work aims to experimentally investigate the interaction between nonlinear shunt circuits and cou- pled piezoelectric structures, with a focus on vibration control in mechatronic systems. For this purpose, an experimental setup was developed consisting of a beam-type structure with a free-fixed boundary condition, harmonically excited and instrumented with a piezoelectric element, to which shunt circuits previously reported in the literature were coupled. The frequency responses of the circuits were analyzed in the configurations of Duffing-type resonators and nonlinear energy sinks (NES), introducing different levels of nonlinearity into the system. The experimental results showed significant changes in the resonant behavior of the structure, including the attenuation of the system’s oscillation amplitudes and the induction of hardening effects and hysteresis in its frequency response. Although the obtained results confirm the efficiency of the studied shunt circuits and contribute to a better understanding of the impact of their respective parameters on the dynamics of the coupled systems, they also highlighted the need for improvements in the signal filtering applied, in order to optimize the performance of both resonator configurations.
