Abstract
The dynamic characterization of machining processes, particularly those involving interrupted cutting, such as milling, has become a key research focus in manufacturing due to the need to suppress self-excited vibrations - commonly referred to as chatter. This phenomenon directly affects tool life, surface integrity of machined parts, and, consequently, overall process efficiency. In this context, various strategies have been explored to expand the dynamic stability limits during machining operations. This study proposes modeling toolholders with distinct internal geometries to provide passive control of vibrations. To assess the dynamic performance of the fabricated components, analytic evaluations and numerical simulations were held. The results demonstrate that specific internal topologies significantly enhance vibrational energy dissipation, highlighting the potential of these adapters as passive chatter control devices. Therefore, the adopted approach presents a promising solution for improving dynamic stability and productivity in milling operations under industrial conditions.
