Abstract
This study presents the development of a low-cost data acquisition system for leak detection in pipelines using piezoelectric sensors as an alternative to high-sensitivity industrial accelerometers. A MATLAB-based interface was created to allow customizable and user-friendly signal acquisition and processing. Experiments were conducted using a leak simulator, comparing measurements obtained with the laptop's internal sound card and an external audio interface. The signals from piezoelectric sensors were analyzed in terms of PSD (Power Spectral Density), CPSD (Cross Power Spectral Density), coherence, and phase, and compared between each other. Results showed that, despite lower sensitivity, piezoelectric sensors provided consistent data, particularly in low-frequency ranges. The external audio interface significantly reduced background noise, enhancing signal quality. The system proved to be a viable and affordable solution for applications in leak detection.
