Regularização mecânica na dilatometria via Correlação de Imagens Digitais da sinterização do Politetrafluoretileno

Abstract
Digital Image Correlation (DIC), using a global approach with a finite element mesh, was employed to measure strain in a Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) specimen during sintering in a furnace equipped with optical windows for DIC application. This resulted in a dilatometry test assisted by DIC. The specimen was speckled with high-temperature-resistant paint to provide the random contrast required by DIC. To address gray-level changes caused by specimen expansion and reduced opacity, mechanical regularization was applied to improve DIC convergence. This regularization acts as a penalty on displacements that deviate from those of a linear elastic material. The regularization intensity depends on the ratio between the regularization length and the element size. The benefits of mechanical regularization are shown and a practical procedure to select an optimal regularization length is presented by balancing the reduction in mechanical residuals against insignificant increases in gray-level residuals.
