Abstract
This work presents a numerical analysis of two-dimensional flow around an open concave semicircular cy- linder, using the IMERSPEC2D methodology, which combines the Fourier Pseudospectral Method with the Immersed Boundary Method. The computational domain, with dimensionless length and height (Lx = 1.5, Ly = 0.56), and the flow parameters (Re = 40, D = 0.08 m), follow experimental references, using a 512 × 256 grid. The methodology allowed for capturing the transient behavior of the flow, highlighting the periodic formation of vortices in the wake and the influence of concavity on the force distribution over the body. The simulation showed that the concavity alters the vortex shedding pattern, generating asymmetric fluctuations in the lift coefficient. The results validate the effectiveness of the IMERSPEC2D methodology in simulating flows involving complex geometries, with good numerical stability and efficient spatial resolution. This approach proves promising for fluid-structure interaction studies, contributing to the design of aerodynamic devices with unconventional shapes.
