Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the input factors cutting speed (180, 200, and 220 m/min), feed rate (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mm/rev), and high-pressure cutting fluid application (35, 45, and 55 Kgf/cm²) on the machinability of 6351 T6 aluminum alloy subjected to defined cutting path drilling process. The machinability of the alloy was assessed based on circularity and cylindricity results. The drilling process utilized an uncoated polished carbide drill bit with a diameter of 6.75 mm, featuring a cylindrical shank and straight flutes for chip evacuation, along with the capability for internal high-pressure coolant application. Through a full factorial multilevel design comprising 3 levels with 3 factors, the influence of cutting speed, feed rate, and cutting fluid application pressure on the drilling of the suggested aluminum alloy was investigated. The proposed objective was achieved by developing a factorial experimental design (DOE - Design of Experiments) that revealed the optimal configuration of the adopted cutting parameters for each investigated output variable. In summary, concerning the analyzed geometric deviations, an increase in cutting fluid application pressure led to an increase in all of them.
