Abstract
This article aimed to demonstrate, in a technical manner, how the hardness and resistance of two common steels increase when combined through the process of welding in a technique called Damascus. This technique is characterized by the fusion of steels, carefully chosen for their individual characteristics, and when combined, form a new material that has stood out for its ability to enhance the hardness and tensile strength of the steels used. It is widely used in the field of cutlery and blacksmithing worldwide. Through the Damascus steel production process, it was possible to obtain a material with a 36% higher tensile strength, with no significant alteration in hardness when compared to the base materials that originated the Damascus steel.
