Abstract
The landing gear is an essential component for aircraft, supporting the loads on the structure during landing. In the SAE BRASIL AeroDesign competition, a failure in this component generates penalties that harm the team's ambition in the competition. Therefore, this work uses the Finite Element Method (FEM) and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) to verify the structural integrity of the landing gear of a small unmanned aircraft for the SAE BRASIL AeroDesign competition. The methodology applied checks the tensions and displacements of the axle and wheels for the landing condition considered most critical for the aircraft. For the analyses, the SolidWorks® software was used for the geometric modeling of the landing gear components and the ANSYS® software was used for the finite element simulation of the landing gear subsystems after assembly. The application of FEM combined with FMEA proved to be an effective methodology in analyzing the structural integrity of the landing gear, considering the different types of component materials and contact conditions established in the assembly. It was verified that the system components are sized, and furthermore, that the landing gear axis is the most critical component of the system, requiring greater attention during the aircraft design and construction stages.
