Abstract
This study aims to contribute to the field of machining with rotary tools through an experimental analysis at the micro level (micro-milling). We investigated the relationship between material removal rate and cutting power, using micro-milling tests on an ultra-fine grained alloy (RSA 6061). Our results show the importance of considering two different stages when determining the material removal rate during milling: the first when several teeth of the milling cutter are engaged in the machining zone and the second when idle motion occurs between passes. This approach makes it possible to effectively determine the actual material removal rate and the cutting power consumed. It is worth noting that the methodology developed in this study is applicable to both micromilling and conventional milling, which expands its potential application and relevance in the machining industry.
