Abstract
There are few studies available that evaluated the effect of inductance on the MIG/MAG process operating in short-circuit mode. The change in the source inductance is measured by its effect on the current: the change in current up rate. The speed at which the current up during the short circuit and the regularity of shorts significantly affect the generation of spatter. However, the influence of welding parameters and conditions and the physical phenomena associated with the effect of current up rate are still not well understood. Additionally, the literature lacks studies correlating transfer regularity with spatter generation. Thus, this work aims to correl ate the current up rate with the regularity of metallic transfer by short circuit and verify its correlation with the generation of spatter. For this, welds were performed with different settings of inductance at the source and the rise rate and a regulari ty index were calculated for three different shielding gas. Furthermore, the deposition rate was calculated. The results showed that the addition of CO2 in the shielding gas affects the correlation between current up rate and regularity and that greater regularity promotes more spatter generation.
