Abstract
Fuel is one of the decisive factors in the performance of a vehicle and must be properly evaluated in order to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using each one of them. The present work presents a comparison between the use of regular gasoline, premium gasoline and ethanol, obtaining the characteristics of each one in the operation of a naturally aspirated spark ignition engine at full load at 1400 revolutions per minute. The study shows the variations in torque, power and consumption for each fuel evaluated. According to the results, when operated at full load, ethanol had a higher indicated power compared to other fuels, 7.5% higher than regular gasoline and 3% higher than premium gasoline. Despite the increase in potency, ethanol developed a higher specific consumption, reaching 50% higher than other fuels. Thus, in applications that require vehicle autonomy or even in competition scenarios, this higher consumption creates the need for the vehicle to transport a greater mass. Premium gasoline, despite being sold at a higher price, did not present significant advantages, in terms of consumption and performance, compared to regular gasoline under the conditions evaluated.
