Abstract
The electronic throttle control system enabled a considerable increase in the efficiency of the cars, allied to a better drivability and safety in them. This system makes use of a direct current electric motor, a butterfly valve, a return spring and a set of gears to regulate the flow of air in the intake system of the internal combustion engine. The electronic throttle opening control is strongly affected by the non-linearities of the return spring and the static friction of the valve, in addition to the difficulty of obtaining precise parameters of the system to be controlled. In this sense, an adaptive control by reference model is proposed, which avoids the need to identify the plant parameters, because it has an algorithm for adapting the gains. In the practical implementation, an electronic system developed for the control of a commercial throttle body, used in vehicles of the FIAT line, was used. With the increasing technological advances in the automotive industry, the results obtained in this work serve as a basis for future research in the insertion of adaptive controllers in other vehicle embedded systems.
