Abstract
In view of the increasing research for alternatives to internal combustion engines that are more efficient and less polluting, there is a wide range of alternative fuel options that can fully or partially replace conventional fuels. Gaseous fuels have been increasingly studied due to their energy density and their emissions of greenhouse gases and polluting gases. Thus, this work aimed at the comparative analysis of two gases: Vehicular Natural Gas (VNG) and Synthesis Gas from the burning of textile materials in one-dimensional gas simulation software, carrying out the construction of a computational model of a Honda GX35 single-cylinder engine, followed by the simulation varying Lambda in a fixed rotation of 1800 rpm, aiming at the use of these fuels in generators. Through this analysis, it was possible to achieve higher brake powers and higher brake efficiencies in syngas operations, although higher specific emissions of NO. It was possible to achieve a brake power approximately 45% higher than VNG, even with a lower energy density of the syngas, while having a gain of almost 2 percentages in brake efficiency, operating with stoichiometric air/fuel ratio.
