Abstract
The aim of this paper is to presente an experimental study about the influence of physical and installation defects of an orifice plate on flow measurement, as well as verify the applicability of a fault diagnosis methodology that uses a third pressure tap downstream of the orifice plate to identify errors in the flow measurement. The experiments are carried out for Reynolds numbers of 6x104, 8x104 e 1x105 and and operating pressures of 3 and 5 bar. The working fluid is atmospheric air and the orifice plate has a diameter ratio of 0.5. Partial blockage of an orifice plate, warpage and reversed instalattion are analyzed. MATLAB software is used to implement the fault diagnosis methodolog. The methodology was able to predict deviations in the flow measurement for the partial blockage in the orifice plate and for the inverted installation. however, for a slight warpage, it did not detect the failure. Flow measurement errors of up to 78,17% were observed in the case of partial orifice obstruction.
