Abstract
The purpose of this work is to use OpenFOAM software for the analysis of turbulent flows over airfoils. The selected airfoil for these simulations is the NACA 4415 and its aerodynamic coefficients are analyzed for a Reynolds number equal to 750000 in a statistically indepedent regime. Firstly, two-dimensional simulations of flow over the NACA 4415 airfoil are performed with an angle of attack of 10º. The lift and drag coefficients for five different C-type meshes are obtained in order to analyze its convergence. Subsequently, through the analysis and comparison of the pressure and velocity fields and the aerodynamic coefficients, it is selected, among the tested meshes, a sufficiently refined mesh that can provide satisfactory results with the least possible computational effort. This selected mesh is used to simulate flows on the same airfoil for different angles of attack, which makes it possible to obtain the variation of the mean lift coefficient by the angle of attack and the drag polar of NACA 4415.
