Abstract
The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the solidification variables of Cu-14% Al-5% Ni-5% Fe alloy on the hardness and microstructure obtained after the solidification of the ingot. The alloy was solidified in an upwardly unidirectional cooling device. Heat was extracted directionally through water cooling on an ABNT 1020 steel base. The microstructures were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (MEV). The thermal variables of solidification of the displacement velocity of the liquidus isotherm (VL) and cooling rate (TR) were evaluated as a function of the distance of the heat extraction surface. The hardness was measured at the positions of the ingot thermocouples. As a result, it was observed that higher cooling rates have higher hardness values. The hardness values presented, when compared with Cu-10% Al-5% Ni-5% Fe alloy presented in previous works, were considerably higher.
