ABSTRACT. THIS WORK REPORTS A NUMERICAL SIMULATION ON STEADY-STATE NATURAL CONVECTION OCCURRING IN A HORIZONTAL POROUS LAYER. THE BOTTOM WALL OF THE LAYER IS HEATED WHILE THE UPPER WALL IS COOLED, BOTH AT CONSTANT TEMPERATURES. THE PROBLEM IS EXAMINED FOR SEVERAL INTENSITIES OF THE BUOYANCY EFFECTS DUE TO TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS. THE FLUID FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS ARE STUDIED. GLOBAL NUSSELT NUMBERS ARE REPORTED. ASPECTS OF THE FLUID FLOW AND TEMPERATURE FIELDS ARE ILLUSTRATED BY CONTOUR MAPS.
